Trillium Health Partners’ cardiac centre—the only one between Toronto and Hamilton—cares for over 9,000 cardiac patients each year, performs over 1,200 cardiac surgeries every year, and opens more coronary arteries than any other hospital in Ontario.

We’re proud to provide leading cardiac care for our local heroes, especially when they’re Second World War veterans, like Bill Fujarczuk.

Lots of Changes in Health Care
A former air force navigator and pilot, Mr. Fujarczuk is a Canadian success story. He came here with little, worked briefly at the Ford plant in Oakville, and then started a construction business, building single-family homes and apartment buildings in Oakville and Mississauga. Now his company owns, manages, and operates commercial and industrial properties in the region.

He’s also a long-time Mississauga resident and local hero to his family and friends. And at 92 he’s still going strong, getting in rounds of golf whenever possible.

Mr. Fujarczuk has seen significant change in health care since he arrived from Poland just after the War. Little did he know just how much he would rely on it—and support it later. He had his tonsils removed here in 1949 and then a number of heart procedures, including a quintuple bypass, or “par 5,” as he calls it, with characteristic humour that comes from a wealth of experience.

Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health—Exceptional Patient Care
Mr. Fujarczuk had three heart procedures performed at Trillium Health Partners’ Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health at our Mississauga Hospital site. Four years ago, he had an ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation, a chronic heart condition involving an irregular heart rhythm called an arrhythmia, which is an electrical disturbance of the heart that affects nearly 350,000 Canadians.

Three years ago, he received a pacemaker at THP and, later, had a stent positioned to open a blocked coronary artery. He was discharged the same day he received his ablation. And his “energy skyrocketed,” he says, after getting the stent—which meant he was back playing golf within days.

“The care I received at Trillium Health Partners has been exceptional,” says Mr. Fujarczuk. “I always received prompt, attentive service.”

Life-Saving Cardiac Care for Your Heroes—West Toronto to Milton
His daughter and Trillium Health Partners Foundation Board member Teresa agrees: “Trillium Health Partners provided life-saving care for the most important man in my life.”

“That’s why I serve on the Board in support of this great hospital,” continues Teresa, who, like her dad, is similarly high-performing and also serves as the president of the Board of the Milton Chamber of Commerce.

“People don’t realize this, but Trillium Health Partners is the referral centre for all emergency cardiac cases for Oakville, Georgetown, Caledon, and Milton,” she remarks. “That means that in an emergency, EMS will bypass local, community hospitals—even the new ones—and bring patients directly here.”

Mr. Fujarczuk is also proud to give back to THP: “There’s a responsibility you have to the country you come from—but more so to the country you come to,” says the pilot. “I’ve received great care, time and again, from Trillium Health Partners, and that’s why I support my hospital.”
