Trillium Diwali raises over $800,000 for Trillium Health Partners

MISSISSAUGA – on October 13, hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Trillium Diwali, a spectacular gala celebrating the South Asian Festival of Lights in support of the Regional Stroke and Neurosurgical Program at Trillium Health Partners (THP). Over $800,000 was raised, totalling over $9.3 million for the hospital to date.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate another successful Trillium Diwali in support of our hospital,” comments Steve Hoscheit, President & CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation. “Community support through events like Trillium Diwali help to ensure that our hospital continues to be there to provide leading interventional stroke care when every minute counts. Thank you to all our guests and sponsors for supporting such an important cause.”

At the gala, guests experienced a special performance by acclaimed and internationally-recognized musician Mika Singh, including the colourful performances by Sankriti Artsspecifically choreographed for Trillium Diwali, and TV personality Colin D’Mello, as seen on CTV, hosted the evening.

Funds raised at Trillium Diwali 2017 will be used to support the purchase of a new surgical bi-planea life-saving piece of equipment that provides the quickest and most effective way to target clots.

“An ischemic stroke is caused by obstruction of blood flow into the brain, usually from blood clots. Over two million brain cells are lost every minute without blood-flow,” explains Dr. Sumit Jhas, Neurosurgeon, Trillium Health Partners and Medical Chair, Trillium Diwali 2017. “Rapid removal of clots is essential, because ‘time is brain’. The surgical biplane is an essential tool that allows neurointerventionalists to identify blood clots in the brain and remove them by performing an embolectomy. A biplane creates a 3D roadmap of blood vessels in the brain allowing our surgeons to find a pathway to the clot and remove it, this translates into better outcomes for our patients – making this a critical, and life-saving, piece of equipment for our community.”

The Foundation would like to thank TD Bank Group for being the presenting sponsor for the third year in a row, as well as well as SprottWealth, Pearson Convention Center, IAMGOLD, Square One, Medtronic, Dilawri Group, Mortgage Company of Canada, Saks Fifth Avenue, RL Solutions, RBC, Verax, Ni-Met, Air Canada, The Printing House, Paystation, The Host and Roots Canada for supporting this year’s event. Trillium Diwali is also supported by a number of generous donors including: table sponsors, tickets purchasers, cash donors, gift-in-kind donors, silent auction donors and bidders.
