We’re 60—and proud of it!

This year, Trillium Health Partners’ Mississauga Hospital celebrates 60 years of providing essential health care for the people of Mississauga.

A Hospital of Their Own

In the early 1950s, our growing community determined that driving to another city for health care was unreasonable. The people of South Peel came together to establish a new hospital for their community, the South Peel Hospital (name changed to Mississauga Hospital in 1970).Mississauga Hospital in 1970

On May 19, 1958, the 115-bed South Peel Hospital accepted its very first patient and, three days later, the hospital’s first baby was born.  Since then, Mississauga Hospital has steadily added critical health care services and advanced treatment technologies for our rapidly growing community.  In 1964, the South Peel Hospital had its first expansion, more than doubling capacity, with a second addition of 100 beds in 1968, and a third in 1983.

How Well Do You Know Your Hospital?
Today, Mississauga Hospital stands at the centre of the community and provides comprehensive care across a full range of medical areas—keeping exceptional care closer to home.

Mississauga Hospital has evolved into an award-winning hospital.  We are a proven leader in many categories and are now regarded as “among the best hospitals in the greater Toronto area for excellence and quality care” by the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

Mississauga Hospital

Mississauga Hospital’s Emergency Department is the largest and one of the busiest in the country, and is also the home to our Regional Cardiac Centre, Regional Stroke Centre, and the Colonel Harland Sanders Family Care Centre, the first of its kind to be offered in a hospital setting.

While Mississauga Hospital has gone through many physical expansions—with another on the horizon—since our opening, our mission has remained constant—to provide the best possible care for our entire community, from birth to seniors’ care, and always closer to home.
