When it comes to helping cardiac patients recover at Trillium Health Partners, members of the Fieldway Retirees’ Club are all heart.
In 2018, they made and donated almost 1,300 heart-shaped red pillows for cardiac patients at our hospital—bringing their total production for the last ten years to more than 9,000 pillows. These are distributed to grateful patients who have undergone heart surgery, and are designed to be held against their chests to reduce discomfort during recovery.
Nine times per year, up to 27 members of the Club get together for the day to assemble their pillow production line. One of them brings a batch of pre-sewn heart-shaped cases, and they divide into stuffers and stitchers before getting to work. Members are Telco Community Volunteers and retirees from Bell Canada. Through their tireless efforts, they have secured a generous donation from Bell through their Employee Giving Program—for four consecutive years.
Community partners like the Fieldway Retirees’ Club, are essential in helping raise money for Trillium Health Partners and our community. From heart cushions to walkathons, fashion shows to online auctions—each and every endeavour makes a critical difference in our hospital’s ability to shape the health of our community.
Our hospital and our patients are always grateful and honoured to have such dedicated, united, and steadfast community support in raising funds and improving lives in countless creative ways that enable exceptional patient care.
