Linda, a resident of downtown Toronto, made three online gifts to Trillium Health Partners this year in support of the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre at the Credit Valley Hospital site.
Why did this downtown Toronto resident donate to our cancer centre? “I was just so impressed by the attentive, personal care,” she says. That care was for Linda’s son-in-law, Greg, who had been diagnosed with lymphoma and who lives with Linda’s daughter in Georgetown.
“It was the little gestures that made the care so wonderful,” Linda continues.
An essential feature of our cancer care program is that THP truly places the patient at the centre of all we do. Exceptional patient outcomes are our daily goal. Our team continuously improves on our care processes. Patients are treated as individuals.
“An important thing to realize is that we see patients as more than their disease or tumour,” says Dr. Craig McFadyen, Program Chief and Medical Director of Oncology at THP.
Our care team accommodated Greg so that he was able to work regular hours while receiving chemotherapy. Chemotherapy appointments were scheduled by his assigned Nurse Navigator every Friday morning so that Greg was able to receive treatment before going to work.
“Our patients are people first who have jobs and children,” says Dr. McFadyen. “It’s essential to quality care that we care for the whole person.”
Linda gave to our cancer care program because she saw the personal care up close. “The nurses were outstanding,” she remarks.
“They explained everything and helped us through a difficult experience.”
