Revitalizing Credit Valley Hospital

No Ontario hospital will need more patient spaces and new services than Trillium Health Partners over the next fifteen years. We’re already have significant capacity pressures in part because our community is among the fastest growing in the country—adding another 650,000 people by 2035. And nearly 40 per cent of our spaces require replacement.

The Three R’s—Reconfiguring, Redeveloping, Revitalizing
Trillium Health Partners is currently reconfiguring, redeveloping, and revitalizing our Credit Valley Hospital site to ensure that we continue to provide high quality care and exceptional patient experiences despite intense capacity pressures.

Our Emergency Department alone represents some of the greatest need. Originally constructed in 1985, it was designed to treat a maximum of only 55,000 patient visits per year. It now sees over 100,000 patients a year—more than any downtown Toronto hospital.

The redevelopment of the Credit Valley Hospital site represents wide-ranging and impactful renovation work that will improve patient care. Medical areas affected are the Emergency, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, and Critical Care departments, among others. The patient impact is considerable.

THP Progress Report—Completion in 2018
This year marks the completion of most of the far-reaching project with final completion scheduled for 2018.

Patient-first impacts include:

  • A 50 per cent increase to the Emergency Department as well as a new and expanded ambulance garage and completely modernized and reconfigured patient spaces.
  • New and reconfigured operating suites for the Surgery program, as well as expanded patient areas for enhanced privacy, recovery, and family support.
  • Expansion of one of the hospital’s busiest departments, Diagnostic Imaging, which produces thousands of scans for nearly every department of our three-site hospital. New CTs and X-Ray machines will also be added.
  • Critical Care facilities will be consolidated to one spacious, modernized facility for enhanced patient care, privacy, and support for families.

The need for this project is incalculable. Trillium Health Partners serves the people of Mississauga, west Toronto, and the Halton and Peel Regions, and has the highest patient volume of any Ontario hospital with over 1.6 million annual patient visits. With your help, we can continue to revitalize our patient spaces at all three of our sites.
