Trillium Health Partners is one of Canada’s largest academically affiliated hospitals, and is committed to advanced training in medicine in direct partnership with the University of Toronto at the Mississauga Academy of Medicine and through practical innovations through our recently launched Institute for Better Health, which is solving systematic problems in the health care system for improved patient care.
Here are some of our recent achievements that require your continued support:
Electronic Cataracts Appropriateness and Prioritization System (e-CAPS)
Renowned Ophthalmologist Dr. Ike Ahmed has established a novel system for triaging cataracts patients, who are currently served on a first-come basis instead of need. Through Dr. Ahmed’s prioritization system, the most severe cases will now be treated first. Our innovative model of care will soon be scaled across the province and nationally for other health jurisdictions to implement. Our research is working to create practical innovations for patients across Ontario.
Mississauga Academy of Medicine, University of Toronto
Established in 2011, the Mississauga Academy of Medicine is an innovative medical-education collaboration between the University of Toronto and Trillium Health Partners. Through the Mississauga Academy of Medicine, medical students can now study in their own community and provide care for their own community. In June 2015, the first cohort of 52 students graduated from the Academy. Many of these graduates will now go on to practice in our community.
Institute for Better Health—Practice–based Evidence
Trillium Health Partners’ Institute for Better Health resolves existing healthcare challenges through innovations in system-redesign. The result is a healthcare system designed for patients and their needs—not the system’s. The Institute is a synthesis of imagination, collaboration, and testing, dedicated to the development of practical innovations and health care solutions that can be adapted by hospitals and communities across the province, country—and beyond.
