When Donors Inspire Donors

Sometimes seeing others donate to an important cause can inspire charitable giving. “One of my friends donated to the hospital and I realized it’s a great way to give back to the community and help patients,” said Shahid Khawaja. The successful real estate broker attended an event, where his friend’s donation to the Muslim Community’s $5 million pledge in support of Trillium Health Partners inspired him to do the same.

The gift comes from the Nasima Foundation, established by Shahid in honour of his late mother who believed in kindness to others and helping those in need. Shahid, one of five children, grew up in Pakistan before immigrating to Canada and establishing his brokerage. His own three children were all born at Trillium Heath Partners and, he says, “We always got the best of the best care. Being able to giving back to the community like this is rewarding in this life and the next, knowing so many patients will receive the best care possible in the new hospital when it opens.”

Incredibly, Shahid has committed to raise $1 million towards the $5 million Muslim community pledge, which is the largest commitment to date towards this pledge. He has kick-started his commitment with a $50,000 gift, which he hopes will inspire others to give.

The money raised will help Trillium Health Partners build Canada’s largest hospital, the future home of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital. You can join Shahid in transforming health care in the West GTA by making a donation toward his $1 million pledge. Every little bit counts! Donate now.
