When COVID-19 entered our communities in early 2020, the world locked down while health care workers, like the dedicated employees at Trillium Health Partners (THP), worked tirelessly to care for patients and keep our communities safe in one of the hardest hit regions in the province. Integral to the fight was the support of local residents and companies, like The Beer Store who helped THP continue delivering exceptional care during this particularly challenging time.
One of THP’s supporters was Ontario-based retailer, The Beer Store. The company joined the fight against COVID-19 by raising funds through coin box donations and empty container returns. This philanthropic effort brought the entire company’s community of customers, managers, employees and senior leadership together to achieve one shared goal: support the health and safety of the communities they work and live in – and love. Over the course of 2020, The Beer Store raised over $2.3 million for 160 charities and organizations across the province, and $107,204 for THP specifically.
The Beer Store’s Director of Marketing, Natasha McVie, says, “Trillium Health Partners is a pillar of the Mississauga community. When early news of COVID-19 hit, and we learned of the impact it was having on local hospitals, we knew we had a role to help however we could.”
For The Beer Store, charitable giving has always been a core value. In fact, since 1927 the company has consistently given back to its local communities through donations in support of hundreds of organizations, hospitals and local charities.
The charitable effort made by various Beer Store locations was felt all across the Peel region, with store managers taking the lead and empowering their staff and customers to play a role in raising much-needed funds for THP. It was a task that was met with selfless support, bringing the community closer together than ever before.
“Engagement is strong when our employees feel empowered to choose an organization they believe in or have personal ties to. Social responsibility is a cornerstone of our business, and initiatives like this allow our employees to bring the vision to life,” says Ozzie Ahmed, Vice-President, The Beer Store.
The generous support from The Beer Store helped support THP’s pandemic response efforts, enabling the purchase of vital pieces of equipment and supplies like ventilators, laboratory equipment for in-house testing and PPE to protect staff and patients.
For local store manager Tamara Erner, giving back to THP after such a challenging 15 months was a no-brainer.
“So many people, communities and industries have suffered and front line workers have gone above and beyond the call of duty. To come together in such trying times to raise funds for THP and the amazing workers it employs shows just how strong we can be when working as a team.”
As we like to say at THP, we are better together. Throughout the month of July 2021, The Beer Store will once again be raising funds for THP through empty bottle returns along with donations from their loyal customers. For participating retail locations in support of THP, click here.
