It’s not just Valentine’s Day we’ll be celebrating on the 14th from now on. February 14 has been proclaimed Hazel McCallion Day by the provincial legislature.
We’re proud that the province has now recognized what everyone in Mississauga has long known—that Hazel McCallion is a tireless champion of our city, region, and Trillium Health Partners.
The bill was presented by Mississauga-Brampton South MPP Amrit Mangat last fall and became an Act on February 2 to unanimous approval.
Last year, we did our own proclaiming. Trillium Health Partners named Hazel McCallion the inaugural Honorary Guardian of Trillium Health Partners to honour the former mayor’s diligent service to her community—particularly her 36 years as mayor—and her enduring legacy as a defender, protector, advocate, and keeper of the Mississauga community.
We also love that her recognition day is the 14th because of her tremendous support of our Cardiac Health program. The mayor was central to our I Heart Hazel campaign, which raised $15 million for cardiac care, prevention, and education. In honour of her generous service, Trillium Health Partners unveiled the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health at our Mississauga Hospital site in 2008.
From everyone at Trillium Health Partners, we wish Hazel a happy Hazel McCallion Day (and a happy birthday!) for her profound and enduring impact on our community and hospital.
