Inaugural Hazel McCallion Walk for Health Raises $500,000 for Trillium Health Partners

Mississauga, ON – The 1st ever Hazel McCallion Walk for Health, a brand new 2 km and 5 km fundraising event hosted by Trillium Health Partners Foundation (THPF) took place this past weekend, raising an astounding $500,000 in support of the future of health care at Trillium Health Partners (THP).

The event was led by THP’s Honorary Guardian and former longstanding Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion and welcomed over 2,000 community members and 93 THP staff teams, who came out to celebrate health care workers. Incredibly, in its inaugural year, the event sold out before the event date and raised money to help Trillium Health Partners build Canada’s largest hospital, the future home of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital.

THP would like to thank the Presenting Sponsor RBC for their generous donation and others who helped put the event together. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations of the community and sponsors. THP is truly grateful to these partners for making the 1st year of this event such a success.

Participants who walked, warmed up with RBC Olympians Erin Latimer and Sara Villani and other notable attendees included Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Breakfast Television and City News anchor Melanie Ng, who walked with her family and her Mom, a former ICU nurse at THP’s Mississauga Hospital. The Family Fun festival that followed the walk rewarded participants with a barbeque lunch and live performances by Disney actor and DJ Brandan Duke and RBC featured artists MICO & Kennen, who gave stellar performances. Bouncy castles, games, face painting and a colouring contest made this a fun family-friendly event enjoyed by all.

“At the beginning of this journey, we couldn’t have anticipated such an amazing turnout. The participation of the entire community along with so many health care workers shows just how important health care is in building healthy, safe and thriving communities and we are so grateful to all of you who came out to support our efforts, ensuring we can continue delivering the leading-edge health care we are known for – today, and for generations to come,” says Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO of the THP Foundation. “Beyond the fundraising success, it was such a wonderful day spent outdoors with Honorary Guardian and steadfast supporter of THP, Hazel McCallion, who we named the walk after and who led the crowds to the finish line.”

The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health will be an annual event that will add to the initiatives that help Trillium Health Partners Foundation raise money so that Trillium Health Partners can achieve its bold vision: to build a new kind of health care for a healthier community.
