Laugh Out Loud raises more than $1.8 million for mental health at Trillium Health Partners

Alan Thicke and Gerry Dee took the stage at this winter’s hottest comedy event of the year

MISSISSAUGA – Close to 1,000 guests escaped the winter blahs and found laughter to be the best medicine as comedians Alan Thicke and Gerry Dee kept the laughs coming at Trillium Health Partners Foundation’s 3rd annual Laugh Out Loud comedy event. Presented by Deepak International Ltd., the event on Saturday raised more than $1.8 million for the mental health program at Trillium Health Partners. The impressive total includes funds provided by an anonymous donor who had previously announced they would match all funds raised up to $1 million.

“Our theme this year was a celebration of all things Canadian and in the true spirit of Canadian generosity, we were able to raise an outstanding amount for a very important cause,” says Steve Hoscheit, president & CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation. “One in five Canadians will experience mental illness at some point in their life. For those in our community, being able to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time is paramount to helping those in our community cope with mental health disorders. Our community rallying together to help us improve access and build out important new programs is not only inspirational, but a testament to our long belief that a community takes care of each other.”

“Based on last year’s numbers, Trillium Health Partners saw a 41% increase in Emergency Department visits for mental health and a 66% increase in visits from youth over the previous five years,” says Dr. Rose Geist, Chief and Medical Director, Mental Health, Trillium Health Partners. “One of the areas where proceeds will go towards will focus on building a new Mental Health Zone within the Emergency Department at Credit Valley Hospital – similar to the one recently opened at the Mississauga Hospital. This will make a tremendous impact on the thousands of lives who turn to Trillium Health Partners every day for high-quality care.”

The Foundation would like to thank Deepak International Ltd., who stepped forward as the presenting sponsor for the next two years; Square One, entertainment sponsor; Longo’s, dinner sponsor; Yorkville Asset Management, VIP reception sponsor – who all returned for the third year in a row.

Our $1-million donor would like to extend their offer to match funds raised for mental health until the end of March. Simply text TrilliumLOL to 20222 to donate $10 or donate online.
