MISSISSAUGA – After a weekend of hockey and family fun, we are proud to announce that Scotiabank Skates reached their $1 million goal over five years in support of local health care. The weekend-long event this year supported diagnostic imaging at both Trillium Health Partners and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
“We are proud to return as the sponsor and host of the 5th Scotiabank Skates at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto,” says Christine Stager, District Vice President, GTA Mississauga at Scotiabank. “Trillium Health Partners and the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital do such important work and we are honoured to be able to help support them with this fun event that combines our love of hockey with our commitment to giving back to our communities. We want to thank everyone who came out this weekend and we can’t wait to see you next year!”
The three-day, hockey-themed skating event featured a men’s hockey tournament, youth and women’s skills clinic, topped off with a family free skate. Friendly competition took place as clinic participants battled each other out in a 20-minute scrimmage, and Olympic Gold Medalist Cheryl Pounder joined participants for a 40-minute skills session, where she shared some expert hockey tips and tricks. All activities took place at The MasterCard Centre.
“We’re so grateful for loyal supporters like Scotiabank and the community for supporting Trillium Health Partners,” says Steve Hoscheit, President & CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation. “Each and every year, Scotiabank puts on such an incredible event that truly brings everyone together for our community’s health care. 41 per cent of patients who come to our hospital receive some form of diagnostic imaging as part of their health care journey; funds raised this year will go towards advancing equipment within our hospital’s diagnostic imaging department, which includes an ultrasound machine at our Mississauga Hospital. Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend!”
“Thank you to the dedicated team behind Scotiabank Skates for generously donating their time and energy in organizing this incredible fundraising event benefitting community health care,” says Jeff Flemington, Vice Chair of the Oakville Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. “We’re grateful for Scotiabank’s support for OTMH, which has been as long-standing as it is far-reaching, providing funding and volunteer leadership, both locally and corporately for nearly 30 years. Their generosity, combined with the fundraising efforts from our Scotiabank Skates hockey-playing physicians, enables us to fund the ongoing equipment needs of the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.”
